Alamut is an area located in the NE of the city of Ghazvin in Iran. It is a mountainous area located amongst Alamut Mountains, Taleghan, and the Alamut Valley which is located in a part of the Central Alborz Mountains and parallel to the Caspian Sea's southern shores. Alamut can undoubtedly be considered as one of the nature's most beautiful incidents. Because of locating near the Caspian Sea, the Alborz mountains, the Daylam area under the Daylamian Rules before Islam, and also because of establishment of the Alamut Castle by Zeid Alavy about the year 246 Arabic Calendar, as well as being the center of Esmailiyyeh Sect rule during 5th to 7th Arabian Calendar century who played an important and effective role in Iran history for nearly 2 centuries, also because of locating near Gilan and Mazandaran provinces, and near Tehran before the city of Ghazvin was considered a province, Alamut in Iran history has had a special place as far as good cultural situation and social growth is concerned. Plentiful of water sources and green pasturages in the area, it has long caught the attention of the farmers and ranchers.
Alamut Castle, is one of the most important and most famous old castles existing and known in the city of Ghazvin locating in the NE of Gazorkhan area. This glorious castle has been constructed at the top of a mountain surrounded by huge cliffs and strange notches. This castle was owned by "Hasan Sabbah" and is now called "Hasan Castle" or "Alamut Castle".
